Rene De Ren 1b7285f29e refactor: adopt POSITIONS constants and fix ESLint warnings

Replace hardcoded position strings with POSITIONS.* constants.
Prefix unused variables with _ to resolve no-unused-vars warnings.
Fix no-prototype-builtins where applicable.
